Oil is a spiritual purifying agent and is used for anointing purposes
Many edible vegetable and animal oils, as well as fats, are used for a variety of purposes in cooking and food preparation. In particular, many foods fried in oil are hotter than those cooked in boiling water. Oils are also used to flavor and modify the texture of foods (eg quick frying). Cooking oils are either derived from animal fats, such as butter, lard and other types, or vegetable oils such as olive oil, corn oil, sunflower oil and many others.
