About iPrognosis Games

iPrognosis personalized game suite

The i-PROGNOSIS project (http://www.iprognosis.eu/), presents you the iPrognosis Games app that assists early PD patients to better understand and deal with their own health status in a more effective way, by reducing, as early as possible, the PD-related risks and increasing their Quality-Adjusted Life-Years. Taking into account the early stage PD patients’ needs and requirements, the iPrognosis Games app integrates different Serious Games in a unified platform from a personalized and gamified environment.

How this study works?

The i-PROGNOSIS Interventions study belongs to the third phase of the i-PROGNOSIS project (http://www.iprognosis.eu/) and the holistic goal of this study is to support patients with a prodromal or manifest PD motor and non-motor symptoms such as sleep disorder, malnutrition, disorder of fine motor skills, speaking troubles and emotional impairment via Games. The iPrognosis Games app consists of 14 different Serious Games included in the Personalized Game Suite (PGS), along with a Warming-up game and eight Assessment Tests. The Serious Games included in the PGS are based on motor and non-motor PD symptoms:

• ExerGames: for muscle tension reinforcement, walking pattern/posture reestablishment,

• DietaryGames: for dietary habits adaptation for reduction of constipation/depression,

• EmoGames: for expressive face encouragement and depression/anxiety treatment, and

• Handwriting and Voice Games: for handwriting pattern correction/reestablishment and hypophonia reduction.

The Assessment Tests are mostly related with postural, balance, coordination, hand movements, refined finger movements and speech aspects, being reflected in multiple ways in the general design/development of the games included in the PGS.

Who can play the Games?

PD patients who already have the iPrognosis app are asked to participate in the i-PROGNOSIS Intervention study and use the iPrognosis Games app as often as possible for a period of four months. The majority of Games are performed at home; but certain Games require specialised sensors and monitors, as well as all ExerGames, so they are recommended to be played in special “Game stations” in clinics. So far, PD patients are participating from September 2019 in biweekly therapy sessions, during dedicated visits planned together with the monitoring clinicians in Thessaloniki (Greece), Dresden (German), and London (UK).

Possible benefits of taking part?

By participating in this study you will be contributing to a European project which is likely to develop an app to reduce the PD-related risks. The iPrognosis Games app creates a key component of self-management by bringing PD symptoms handling to patients at their own home, rather than in the wider community, to be used and accessed at their convenience 24-7.

Possible risks of taking part?

There are unlikely to be any disadvantage or risks by participating in the study.

Withdraw from the study?

You can withdraw at any time and stop participation by uninstalling the application.

Your data will be encrypted on your device (e.g., smartphone, tablet) and will be sent to the server pseudo-anonymised. As it is not necessary for playing the games to use a real name or your phone number, you can only use a username and password. The VoiceGames are using speech recognition from FRAUNHOFER (Germany) and they are responsible for data protection of this data. The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in Greece is the general responsible for the rest of data protection, and the monitoring of good practices in terms of storage and data management.
