Kahani Mitra

Kahani Mitra ("Story Friend" in Hindi) is a voice-powered creative story companion app for Indian children and adults of all ages. The child speaks their story aloud, and Mitra — the app's AI persona — listens, enhances, and helps grow the story with suggestions, rewrites, grammar help, and creative guidance. Built for Android, it works both online (with full AI features) and offline (stories saved instantly, AI applied when internet returns).

Voice Story Recording

The core experience. The child taps a microphone button and simply speaks their story aloud.

Live transcription — speech is converted to text in real time on screen as the child speaks, using Android's built-in Google Speech Engine (free, no extra cost)

Indian English optimised — uses en_IN locale for better recognition of Indian names, places and accents

Offline-first — if there is no internet when recording ends, the raw transcript is saved immediately with a friendly notice. No blocking dialogs, no waiting

Continue recording — a child can add more to an existing story by recording again, and the new speech is appended

AI Story Enhancement (Powered by Google Gemini 1.5 Flash)

When recording ends and internet is available, Mitra automatically runs three All AI responses draw from Indian culture: Panchatantra tales, festivals like Diwali and Holi, animals like elephants and peacocks, and Indian settings.

A 126-word stop-word list prevents common words like "Upon", "Once", "Far" from being mistaken for character names

Story Hints (Suggestions)

Each story has up to 4 active creative hints visible on the story screen. These are generated by Gemini referencing the actual story content.

Tab 1 — Grammar Fix

Scans the entire story for spelling mistakes, wrong verb tenses, missing capitals, run-on sentences, repeated words and punctuation errors. Returns the corrected story with a list of every change made

Tab 2 — Complete Sentence

Reads where the story currently ends and suggests 3 different ways to continue from that exact point — one action-focused, one emotion-focused, one magical. Each is 1–2 sentences. The child taps one to append it.

Tab 4 — Apply Suggestions

Shows all unused hints. Tapping one asks Gemini to write the hint into the story as a natural continuation (2–4 sentences). The child sees a preview and accepts or rejects it.

Checks the story against well-known published works — classic fairy tales (Cinderella, Snow White), Indian epics (Ramayana, Panchatantra, Akbar-Birbal), popular children's books and animated films.
