The most important institution shared among all peoples is the family. And within our families, we hold meaningful traditions, many of which are associated with the food that we prepare, and eat, with one another. Our food traditions play such an important role in our lives as an expression of love within our families. So many of our memories are linked to our food. So many unforgettable moments and traditions are centered around the family table. So often, we remember our passed family members through the food that they prepared for us with love.

Understanding, preserving, and sharing our own food traditions, as well as learning about the traditions of others with different backgrounds, will help us to realize that we are all not that much different. Food unites. Food teaches. In its careful preparation we find love. In its consumption, we find comfort. In its traditions we find togetherness. With the preservation of our food traditions, we preserve our identities, we strengthen our families, we relive memories, and we find common ground with others.

The MyFamilySoup App will allow us to preserve and share our family food recipes and, most importantly, the wonderful stories and precious memories that go along with them.

It’s NOT just soup…

MyFamilySoup is not about soup. It’s about ALL your family’s food…your family food-related traditions…your food culture. It’s about the food that means the most to you, and the memories and feelings it invokes within you. The “Soup” in MyFamilySoup is a metaphor for family, home cooking, comfort, warmth, togetherness, and love. So, it’s true, a “Soup” post is a great home recipe, but it also tells a story of a childhood memory, a smell from Mom’s kitchen, a celebration, a holiday gathering, or just a moment in time that is remembered through your family food.

The MyFamilySoup App is intended to provide families with one central archive where people can bring together and preserve family food recipes and the memories that always come along with them.  By posting and sharing family recipes (some of which have been passed down through the generations), and by encouraging other family members to do the same, you are honoring those who came before you who formed the foundation upon which your family was built. The food-related traditions and memories that you collect and archive today in this app will be enjoyed for generations to come.
