About Neon Tetra Care Guide

Neon Tetra Care Guide & Species Profile

The neon tetra is a freshwater fish of the tetra fish family. Neon tetras have vibrant blue bodies with striking red markings from the belly to the tail.

Because of their hardiness, neon tetras have low care needs, making the fish a popular choice for beginner fishkeepers.

There are several variations of neon tetras available, including black neon tetras and diamond head neon tetras.

~~FAQs~~

~Can a rainbow shark live with neon tetras?~

Yes, a rainbow shark can live with neon tetras. A rainbow shark can easily get along with peaceful, schooling fish. Moreover, as friendly mid-level feeders, neon tetras won’t get in the way of the bottom-dwelling rainbow sharks.

With that said, if neon tetras accidentally venture into the rainbow shark’s territory at the bottom of the tank, there’s a small chance the rainbow shark may eat them. Typically, however, the rainbow shark will just chase them away.

~Can I keep two neon tetras?~

No, you cannot keep two neon tetras. Neon tetras are best kept in schools of a minimum of six and may die of stress if you don’t keep enough of them in your tank. The more neon tetras you keep, the better their standard of living will be.

Ten neon tetras are the ideal number you want to keep in your tank. Also, make sure to keep a clean tank, with the right conditions for your neon tetra fish.

~Do neon tetras need an air pump?~

No, neon tetras do not need an air pump. Neon tetras don’t need extra oxygen pumped into their tank and will still thrive without an air pump.

However, neon tetras do require 12–14 hours of light during the day, every day. They also need an aquarium filter, a big enough tank, an aquarium heater (to keep the water temperature between 73 and 79 degrees Fahrenheit (23–26 degrees Celsius)), a PH level of between 5.5 and 6.8, clean living conditions, and to be kept in a school of a minimum of six members.

~Why do neon tetras die easily?~

Neon tetras die easily because they are easily stressed and required specific living conditions. You can prevent your neon tetras from dying by keeping a minimum of six neon tetras in your fish tank and making sure they have the right food, PH level, water temperature, tank size, and lighting.

In addition, neon tetras have lifespans of up to ten years but can easily die because of the wrong tank size, disease, stress, and the wrong water conditions. Make sure your fish friends have a good environment, and they will live for up to 5–10 years.

~Are five neon tetras enough?~

No, five neon tetras are not enough. You should keep a minimum of six neon tetras in your tank because they are schooling fish that get stressed and die if there are not enough of them. The ideal amount of neon tetras you should keep is 10.

The more neon tetras you keep, the better, but make sure you have the right amount of water in your tank to accommodate the number of tetras. If you have more than 15 neon tetras, make sure you have at least 20 gallons (76 litres) of water in your aquarium. Do not overcrowd your fish tank.

~Do neon tetras need light at night?~

No, neon tetras do not need light at night. Neon tetras require 8–10 hours of darkness and 12–14 hours of light during the day every day to maintain a healthy circadian rhythm.

Consider using an aquarium light timer to help you make sure your neon tetras are well looked after and getting adequate amounts of light and darkness, even if you are out during the day.

these are just some FAQs. there are still many FAQs and info in the application about Neon Tetra
