Spot This!

Spot This! is a simple Android app to easily allow the user to spot an object of interest, mark the location, take a picture of the object, record a voice note about it, and send it to an email address for storage or processing. It was originally developed for United States Power Squadron use in Cooperative Charting, and the user ID is the member’s membership number.

A user ID is set up in the app and files are named by the user ID, which can be your name (avoid punctuation). Where a group effort or organization is involved, use your ID in that group or organization. Reports can be emailed to your personal mailbox or a central group/organization mailbox where desired. Optionally, the phone's ID, hashed for privacy using SHA-1, can be sent with the report where the source must be registered and/or identifiable.

Once the settings are configured, there are three preparatory steps and an action step. The three preparatory steps (mark location, take a photo, and record a voice note) may occur in any order depending on the situation, but all three must be completed before the report can be sent. The report may be canceled at any time before it is sent.

An upgrade is available in the app to add more backgrounds and keep your device on longer while spotting.
