Gastric Band Surgery:-

A gastric Band is a special inflatable band which is placed around the top portion of the patient’s stomach, creating a small pouch that limits or reduces the amount of food which you are able to eat at any one time. The LAP-BAND® System is adjustable, which enables the Practitioner to either inflate the band to tighten it or deflate it to loosened the band to help the patient achieve a level of food he/she consumes while maintaining a healthy diet, and supporting a patient’s long-term weight loss success.

The gastric band is inflated with a saline solution to tighten it, or can be deflated by extracting a small amount of saline solution to loosen it over a period of time to change the size of the stomach pouch the band has created.

Patients who have the Gastric band fitted are more able to achieve good weight loss results because the practitioner is able to monitor and adjust how much food the Patient consumes. This is good for the patient as it encourages them to maintain the diets recommended by the Practitioners, and the Practitioners like it because it allows them to monitor the patients progress over time.

Gastric Bypass Surgery:-

A gastric bypass surgery is normally performed to reduce the size of the stomach by as much as 90%. A normal stomach can stretch, in some instances this may have been stretched to a capacity of over 1000 ml. There are two version of Gastric ByPass Surgery and the method adopted will vary depending upon which ByPass procedure is recommended by the surgeon following your consultation. The Surgeon will recommend either "Roux-en-y" Gastric Bypass surgery or a "Omega Loop" Mini Gastric Bypass.

Gastric Sleeve Surgery:-

Gastric Sleeve Surgery, or Gastrectomy is carried out by a qualified Bariatric surgeon who will remove approximately 60% to 80% of the stomach along the greater outer curvature of the patients stomach, leaving only a small tube (“sleeve”) for the new stomach pouch which extends from the natural stomach opening to the natural stomach outlet (pyloric valve).

The procedure helps to limit eating by reducing the overall size of the stomach by removing the part of the stomach that produces the hunger-stimulating hormone Ghrelin. The cutout part of the stomach is removed from the body and not left in place as with gastric bypass surgery. This procedure is not reversable so is generally reserved for extreme cases of obesity only.
