AZAWAD AND TUAREG

They are the Amazigh nation that colonizes the Sahara, southern Algeria, Azouad north of Mali, northern Niger, southwestern Libya and northern Burkina Faso. The Tuaregs are Sunni Muslims who are Malik and speak the Tarqiyah language with its three dialects: Tamaj, Takhsh, and Tammagh. The Tuaregs can be described as ethnically white with a tendency to tan. The Tuaregs lived a long life in the Sahara for thousands of years and some of them still adhere to this lifestyle because of the marginalization they suffered from the countries that shared their lands. The Tuareg knew many names in successive stages of history. In prehistoric times they were known as the Garmantines. In the early Islamic era they were known as Almtamin, then Almoravid, and finally in modern times known as Tuaregs.
