Electrical Machines are devices that transfer energy from one location to another in the form of electricity. can be classified according to the type of energy that they convert into electricity. The most common electrical machines are: generators, motors, alternators, solenoids and transistors.

There are five basic types of electrical machines: motors, generators, alternators, transformers and dynamos. The AC motor is a rotary machine that makes use of the alternating current produced by the alternator or dynamo. It may be used as a motor or a generator. The DC (direct current) motor is a rotary machine that makes use of direct current from other sources. The most common type uses batteries as its source of current. The DC generator produces direct current from mechanical energy. The AC generator produces alternating current from mechanical energy.
