The Javanese calendar uses two day cycles: a weekly cycle consisting of seven days (Sunday to Saturday, saptawara) and a weekly cycle of pancawara consisting of five market days. In 1633 AD (1555 Saka), Sultan Agung of Mataram tried hard to instill Islam in Java. One of his efforts was to issue a decree replacing the Saka calendar, which was based on the rotation of the sun, with a lunar or lunar calendar system (based on the rotation of the moon). Uniquely, the Saka year numbers are still used and continued, not using calculations from the Hijriyah year (at that time 1043 H). This was done for the sake of the principle of continuity, so that the current year, which was 1555 Saka, was continued into 1555 Java.
Equipped with Primbon, Primbon serves as a guide for determining attitudes in an action in life. Primbon collects various Javanese knowledge, contains complicated number system formulas for calculating lucky days, and takes care of all kinds of important activities.
