Karate Technique

Karate is a martial art that originated in Japan. Karate martial arts brought into Japan via Okinawa. This martial art was first called "Tote" which means like "Chinese Hand". When karate entered Japan, Japanese nationalism was at its height, so Sensei Gichin Funakoshi changed the Okinawan (Chinese Tote) kanji into Japanese kanji to 'karate' (Hand Empty) to make it more acceptable to Japanese society. Karate consists of two kanji. The first is 'Kara' which means 'empty'. And the second, 'te' means 'hand'. The two kanji together mean "empty hands" 空手.

According to Japan Karatedo Federation (JKF) and World Karatedo Federation (WKF), which is regarded as the main style of karate:

Shotokan, Goju-Ryu, Shito-Ryu and Wado-Ryu.
