A spirograph is a tool that produces geometric curves by rotating a circle inside or outside a fixed circle. A hypotrochoid is produced when the rotating circle is inside and an epitrochoid is produced when the rotating circle is outside the fixed circle.

In this application,

• both hypotrochoids and epitrochoids can be generated

• the generated figure can be shown in one go or drawn in animation at different speeds

• the relative size of the rotating circle can be adjusted

• the pen position with respect to the rotating circle can be adjusted

• the line colour and thickness, together with the background colour can all be adjusted

• the control panel can be hidden to allow a screenshot of the generated figure to be taken for use elsewhere
