At first glance, the list of public holidays in Canada seems quite extensive. Due to the sheer size of the country and the regional and political quirks associated with it, however, there are numerous holidays that only apply regionally. In order to unify the chaos a bit, the holidays of the different regions were put on at least one uniform calendar day. For example, Victoria Day (the Monday before May 25) has different names in each of the federal states. Something different is celebrated, but on the same day.
