The most important Mantras in astrology are the ones done to propitiate the nine planets known as Navagraha Shanti. On certain auspicious occasion, or before embarking upon any important journey or work, one should perform these Mantras, one can even recite Mantras for each planet according to its position in one's birth chart. In other words, when a planet is weak in the birth chart it needs to be propitiated by reciting the relevant Mantra, by either wearing the gemstones, or just worshipping the gem, which represents the afflicted planet.
