Jal Mahotsav

Inspired by the honorable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, honorable Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan planned to make Hanuwantiya tapu (island) the most sought after tourist destination. With innovative ideas, the first Jal Mahotsav was organized by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department for 10 days - 12-21 Feb 2016. It inspired awe in the mind of all visitors. It is organised at Indira Sagar dam, which is one of the biggest man made water body of Asia.

Jal Mahotsav is focused on establishing Madhya Pradesh as a surging forth in the national arena of adventure & water tourism. It is an event that brings adventure activities on one platter, so far a distant dream in Central India. The activities are brought from various parts of the country, which ensures cost effectiveness and total security to the participants. The activities are divided as air, land and water activities. Areas are earmarked for each activity at Hanuwantiya.

Some of the major activities at Jal Mahotsav include Zip Liner, Tug of War, Volleyball, Paint Ball Game, Archery Game, Bull Cart Ride, Lite Flying, Club House, Climbing Wall, Star Gazing, Kids Zone, All-terrain Vehicle, Land Para Sailing, Para Motors, Hot Air Balloon, Water Zorbing, Water Para Sailing, Motor Boat, Banana Ride, Jet Ski, Night Camping at Island, Camp Fire, Food Zone & Craft Bazaar

Madhya Pradesh, the heart of incredible India is one of the biggest tourist attractions as it is blessed with river Narmada, natural beauty and wild life.

It is one of the state in the country where the tourism sector receives much more priority from the government. The state government has visionary plans of opening up new dimensions in this sector to attract investment and increase tourist inflow to earn revenue and generate employment. Through Jal Mahotsav, MP showcases itself as a promising state for water and adventure tourism. The rich water bodies of the state provide it a potential for exploring possibilities in water sports which, if tapped, would create immense scope for adventure tourists as in countries like Singapore.

Jal Mahotsav was planned to showcase the potential and possibilities which MP holds for investors, travel planners and adventure tourists on the bank of Indira Sagar Dam, Hanuwantiya in Khandwa district.

Indira Sagar dam is one of the largest man made dam providing 950+sq kms of pristine water of Narmada River with over a hundred islands. The site is as good as any seaside with the advantage of fresh water. This site was zeroed on by the MP Tourism Corporation as the best site for holding Jal Mahotsav, which was organized by Aum event, an opportunity won through the transparent process of tendering.

The site, although picturesque, was undulating, uneven and totally uninhabited, except the Tourist Complex run by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Corporation, devoid of water supply and electricity. It had to be shaped into a venue, fit for hosting the adventure activities and accommodation. This is a first of its kind event in which air, water and land adventure activities were brought together at a single site at reasonable cost. The most captivating experience is the tented city which was created facing the water body at the bank of the Indira Sagar dam.

It is a perfect place to view &sunrise and sunset. Those who wish to spend some quality time with their family and indulge in some much needed relaxation, can book a luxury tent at the festival and sit back and enjoy the serene beauty of the water and enjoy the activities. Jal Mahotsav is a unique manifestation of varied cultural ethos of the region known for the ethnic flavor and zest for celebration. This festival provides an exclusive opportunity to witness the creative ingenuity of the artisans and craftspeople, assorted array of folk music and performances, mixed representation of culture & communities, along with a vast diversity in ecology.
