Shri Siddheshwar is the Gramdaivat of Solapur city. The Siddheshwar temple was built by a yogi, Shri Siddharameshwar, who was a devotee of Sri Mallikajuna of Srisailam. It is said that the shrine was built 600 to 700 years back by the Habbus who were disciples of saint Shri Siddharameshwar. A Siddheshwar Temple is located at the heart of the city. It is surrounded by a large water tank. It is believed that Sri Siddharameshwar dug the lake himself, when all the holy rivers came and asked for permission to reside in the lake, thus making it sacred. Shri Siddharameshwar himself attained Jeeva Samadhi in the temple complex itself, and his Samadhi itself draws a lot of crowds. Shri Siddheshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Siddheshwar, who has other forms as Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Siddharameshwar was a great contributor to Lingayatism religion and he is considered as one of the five prophets of Lingayat sect. Siddheshwar temple at Solapur is a renowned temple for followers of Lingayat sect. The fair is celebrated from 12th to 16th January. The principal day of the fair is 14th January.
