Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown, born May 5, 1989 in Tappahannock, Virginia, is a singer, dancer-choreographer, singer-songwriter, actor and American director. Beginning in singing and dancing at a young age, Brown signed with the label Jive Records in 2004, and released his first self-titled album the following year. He reached second place in the American Billboard 200, and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With his first single Run It! in pole position of the American Billboard Hot 100, Brown becomes the first musician, since Diddy in 1997, whose first single is in first place.
