The Clique app lets you use your Android phone or tablet device to detect imperceptible codes (digital watermarks) within images in Clique magazine to access hidden content, offers and shop fashion products.

The Clique app enables its, free to sign up, members to discover additional rich media experiences from the printed magazine by launching the app and holding the camera steadily 10-18cm away from the printed copy, the app enables a cross-media experience by detecting the watermarks. Once detected the user will hear a click or feel the vibration indicating the code was read successfully thus triggering the linked further information associated with the printed image; exclusive videos, hidden content, and product information via a data connection.

Every Image Uniquely Coded

It is important to hold your device at the correct distance from the printed page. This distance can vary slightly from device to device. Start 20 cm away and slowly move closer, you should read the watermark between 10 and 20 cm. Allow time for the camera to focus on the printed piece and for the auto-exposure to adjust to the lighting. Good lighting is important, as a general rule, if your eyes can read the printed page without straining, the device should be able to detect the code. Use the flash LED to improve lighting if necessary.

The device should be held parallel to the print, it works best when the device is not tilted at an angle. If the print is a glossy stock, try to position the print away from the direct light source to reduce any glare. Ensure the image is in the centre of the picture frame and wait to allow the device camera to focus. It should only take a few attempts before you learn where to hold your device to get the best results.
