But there are already many apps in the store.

Yes, and I have used many of them myself. Some of them are useful but far from perfect.

So I set out to make an app for myself. I read scientific literature on learning and

built an app for me.

How does it differ from other vocabulary builders?

We have two types of vocabulary- functional vocabulary and normal vocabulary. Functional

vocabulary is the set of words that an individual speaks and writes. But there are

many more words which we understand while reading or listening. That is our normal

vocabulary.

While some of those apps do work and increases vocabulary, only a small fraction of those words distill to functional vocabulary.

Eloquent improves both types of vocabulary and it does that faster than any other app.

How does it work:

1. Active recall- This is the distinguishing feature of Eloquent. It has exercises

centered around active recall to speed up your learning and improve its efficacy.

2. Spaced repetition- It is not enough to just see meaning once. Word needs to be repeated at a regular interval to make it permanent. While spaced repetition common feature, only Eloquent provides a different context every time. This helps in understanding what the word truly means.

3. Contextual learning- Often, words have many synonyms but not all of them can be used invariably. Some words are more suitable for a context. Eloquent teaches you precise meaning and patterns in which a word is used.

4. Entertaining- Eloquent uses fun games and you can practice/play anytime. But I am

warning you, it is addictive and you might become eloquent very soon.
