INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Start the app, after the splash screen you are presented with the information sheet which scrolled to the end reveals a button to play the videoclip. Map and other otpions are available via the menu button. Since 1990, World On Communications has realized more than 80 videoguides about several suggestive places around the world. Every videoguide has been conceived how an itinerary that people can easily retrace. Now, these videoguides and their information are used to compile this new serial of android apps.

Every app is structured in 3 parts: - Map - Information Sheet - Video clip

This is one of a new series of apps dedicated to Eritrea that encompass natural, historical, cultural and tourist places.

In the video-app "Welcome to Keren - 1" we show the first part of the itinerary from Asmara and some part of the town.

While in the video-app "Welcome to Keren - 2" the videoclip is completely dedicated to Keren.

GETTING THERE \ KEREN

BY BUS:

You can reach Keren boarding one of the minibus leaving daily from the local bus station in Asmara. Ticket cost is cheaper than any other means of transportation, only cons that have to wait till bus is complete, so, sometimes means 2\3 hours seating in the typical market hassle.

PRECAUTIONS AND VACCINATIONS

No vaccinations are required unless special you go off the beaten track

tourist. Recommended in other cases, as a precaution, vaccination against yellow fever, typhoid, dengue, hepatitis C.

Do not drink tap water!!! Please, use bottled water or purified water, that is cheaper and also available in plastic jar of 5\25 litres. Food is safe as well as ice-cream.

However, check with your clinic of infectious diseases, before leaving because the conditions in this country vary from month to month.

NOTES

An efficient system of dams makes this area very fertile and allows a wide variety of crops.

With local services you can not stop to shoot out of the stopping places.

We must also know that in order to leave Asmara tourists must have a permit issued by the tourist office, where they are given the means of transport and destinations to reach.

Permission must always be shown and at the time of writing, the cost of the permit is indicative of a euro to be paid in Nakfa, the Eritrean currency.

GEOGRAPHY\CLIMATE

Keren (formerly Cheren) is the second largest city in Eritrea. It is situated about 91 kilometers northwest of Asmara.

HISTORY

The city grew around the Eritrean Railway to Asmara, now dismantled because of the war (although there are plans to rebuild it). It is an important commercial centre and was the scene of regular battles in both World War II and the Eritrean War of Independence...

WHERE TO STAY/TO EAT - KEREN

The hotel facilities are modest, yet devoted primarily to local visitors, although we must recognize that even here there is a plan for upgrading the accommodation and the tourism sector...
