Booker T. Washington was an African-American educator and author. He was the most influential figure in fighting for the civil rights among the African-American community in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Booker T. Washington was born into slavery and freed as a young boy. He rose through the ranks of education, and eventually earned his position as principal of Tuskegee. Under his leadership, the school was built, by students and for students, to give them a deeply meaningful education. Mr. Washington stressed the importance of developing oneself for life-long success. He strived to imbue in his students the highest personal standards and personal character development.
