Fruit Carving

1. Select a Melon.

You can use what melon I have a sturdy, hard skin and no bruises or soft parts. Watermelon is often chosen to be carved for its size, but any large and hard melon of any kind can be worn.

2. Cut a small portion of the bottom of the melon fruit.

Use the sharpest knife you have, for the best control when carving. Start by using a knife to cut a small piece on one end of the melon, so that the melon will remain in the same position.

3. Draw a pattern on a melon.

Use a good permanent marker to draw a pattern on the surface of the melon, for example the head silhouette and the wings of a goose.

4. Cut a pattern.

Insert a knife to any part of melon skin that has marked the line of permanent markers, and cut the whole pattern carefully.

5. Remove the remaining melon skin.

After all the patterns have been cut, the melon skin that is not attached to the melon may be removed.

6. Empty the contents of the melon.

Use a scoop of fruit to remove all the flesh from the melon.

7. Fill the melon bowl.

Fruit salads seem to be the most common thing that is stuffing for a melon bowl. Immediately serve this dessert, or store it first in the refrigerator.
