Mohammed Rafi (24 December 1924 – 31 July 1980) was an Indian film playback singer. He is considered one of the greatest and most influential singers of the Indian subcontinent. Mohammad Rafi was prominent for his adaptability and range of voice his songs varied from fast lively numbers to patriotic songs, sad numbers to highly romantic songs, qawwalis to ghazals and bhajans to classical songs such as haseena maan jayegi. He was known for his ability to shape his voice to the persona and style of the actor lip-synching the song on screen in the movie albums. He received four Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award by his best songs. In 1967, he was pleased with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India

He recorded audio and video songs more than thousands of films, in native languages of india such as Urdu and Punjabi and had a strong command in it. He recorded more thank seven thousand songs in different languages of india as well as English. Mohmammed Rafi’s audio and video songs are downloaded and much appreciated by his lovers in all over the world.

Muhammad Rafi was found in two movies. He appeared on the screen for the songs "Tera Jalwa Jis Ne Dekha" in film Laila Majnu and "Woh Apni Yaad Dilane Ko" in the Film Jugnu. He sang a number of songs for Naushad as part of the chorus, including "Mere Sapnon Ki Rani, Roohi Roohi".

After the elimination of Mahatma Gandhi, the team of Husanlal Bhagatram-Rajendra Krishan-Rafi had overnight created the song "Suno Suno Ae Duniyawalon, Bapuji Ki Amar Kahani". He was invited by the Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, to sing at his house. In 1948, Rafi received a silver medal from Jawaharlal Nehru on Indian Independence Day

Lata Mangeshkar raised the issue of playback singers' share in the royalties. Recognizing Rafi's position as the leading male playback singer, she wanted him to back her in demanding a half-share from the five percent song royalty that the film's producer conceded to select composers. Rafi refused to side with her, stating that his claim on the film producer's money ended with his being paid his agreed fee for the song.

After Mohammad Rafi the world of music bear a great loss which will never be gained. Mohammed Rafi was second eldest son in his family. He married twice his first marriage was to his cousin Bashira Bibi and his second marriage was to Bilquis Bano. Mohammad Rafi had four sons and three daughters.
