Combattre la stigmatisation

La stigmatisation est un sérieux désaccord social de caractéristiques ou croyances personnelles perçues comme allant à l'encontre des normes culturelles.

Il existe plusieurs formes de stigmatisation : la présence de déformations externes, telles que les cicatrices et les manifestations physiques d'anorexie mentale, de lèpre, d'infirmités physiques ou handicap social, telle que l'obésité. Les déviations de traits personnels, incluant troubles mentaux, toxicomanie, alcoolisme et antécédents criminels.

Les groupes ethniques et nationalités, ou religions perçus comme étant hors des normes sociales.

Les troubles mentaux, les infirmités physiques et maladies, le VIH/SIDA, l'illégitime, l'orientation sexuelle, l'identité de genre, la couleur de la peau ou affiliation avec une nationalité spécifique, religion (ou manque de religion), se proclamer être supérieur à une autre ethnie sont également des formes de stigmatisation sociale.

Stigmabase is a non-profit internet initiative dedicated to informing and raising awareness on the damaging effects of social exclusion and stigma around the world. The marginalization of individuals or categories of individuals is a too common phenomenon. Millions of people are facing this problem around the world and many complex factors are involved.

Since 2010, Stigmabase lists every week — 52 weeks per year — 1000 stories about social exclusion and its causes throughout the world — in 16 languages. Stigmabase hopes to be a vehicle for change and combat social exclusion throughout the world.
