The Book of Enoch

The Book of Enoch is an ancient Hebrew apocalyptic religious text explaining the origin of the Fallen Angels and why the Universal Flood was necessary, which is attributed to Enoch, Noah's great-grandfather.

The book of Enoch contains unique material on the origins of demons and Nephilim, because some angels fell from heaven, an explanation of why the Genesis flood was morally necessary, and a prophetic exposition of the thousand-year reign of the Messiah.

The book of Enoch became widely known during the development of the canon of the Hebrew Bible.

Enoch was excluded from both the formal canon of the Tabaj and the typical canon of the Septuagint.

One possible reason for the Jewish rejection of the book could be the textual nature of several early sections of the book that make use of Torah material.

The content, particularly detailed descriptions of the fallen angels, would also be a reason for the rejection of the Hebrew canon in this period.

In 4th century Christianity the Book of Enoch was mostly excluded from Christian biblical canons and is now regarded as scripture only by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
