Zhangjiajie is a city in the Hunan province of China. It is famous for its unique mountainous shapes and formations. It was recently elevated to worldwide prominence because these mountains were used as the mountains of the planet Pandora. Zhang is the family name Jia means family and the last character Jie means area or world.

The system there is we ride our private buses into the main tourist area. From there we purchase our swipe cards with fingerprint identification mind you and get into shuttle buses. These shuttles will bring us to the particular attraction we were going to see. In the morning we took a train ride to see the mountains from afar and we were already very impressed. After lunch, we were taken to the cable cars. Now here was the real deal as the cable cars carried us among the peaks. We then rode another shuttle bus driven by daredevil drivers to reach a hiking trail that showcased several more peaks and natural stone formations like stone bridges. In the end, we came down the face of one mountain via a 324km high tourist lift. It was an amazing day trip.

Raveling is it for leisure or business fascinates me to no end. But despite visiting more than 70 cities throughout Pakistan there still are a few important destinations that have somehow evaded my otherwise inclusive itinerary over the last couple of decades or so. For a long Skardu was one of the places. I remember I was about to embark upon a trip to the region with my father in the ’90s before the news of a landslide made us change our plans. The second time around. I planned a trip with my friends and managed to reach Hunza and the Khunjerab Pass. But again Skardu remained unvisited. This was back in 2002 when we did not have an Atta bad Lake.

So when I got a nod from my boss to be a part of the team visiting the Skardu Baltistan region for a week I was over the moon. I was finally going to be there after a 20-year wait. The excitement was augmented by short video clips of the region shared recently by travel companies and pilots on social media. Most of these clips show the last couple of minutes of the aircraft landing on a runway located among peaks of enormous snow-capped mountains that suddenly appear out of nowhere. That is not entirely the case though.

Mother Nature never ceases to surprise us it seems like every time we step outside our homes were greeted with something new and interesting. And some keen-eyed people who were fortunate enough to capture these things are sharing them with the whole world.

All around us are towering trees, waterfalls, and even animals that largely supersede our size. The clouds are so high above our heads that we can’t even reach up to touch them not even perched on the shoulders of your tallest friend. Yet somehow we all grow up thinking we are big enough to have real-world problems. We feel so large and in charge in our everyday lives where 6 feet tall seems like a grand height.

Take a deep breath and relax land earn to have a little bit more fun. After all, we are only tiny humans. The above photo taken in Mansfield Victoria, Australia, depicts just how small humans are in comparison to the nature that surrounds us.

Trillions of people call planet earth home although it too is a small dot on a grander scale. The Voyager 1 took an image of our solar system from 4 billion miles away and all that you could see in proof of our incredible home was a very small speck. On it everyone you know everyone you love everyone you’ve ever heard of Soon after returning to Seattle, I decided to purchase some Echinacea plants for my garden and a microscope. When I looked at the flower under the microscope I gasped my eyes beheld the magnificence and wonder of nature.
