Merchant Of Venice Summary

It is a play written by William Shakespeare in the 16th-century. People believe that it has been written between 1596 and 1599. Though classified as a comedy, the play is most remembered for its dramatic scenes. Bassanio, a young Venetian of noble rank, wishes to woo the heiress Portia of Belmont.

Having idle his estate, he needs 3,000 ducats to match the others as his expenditures as a suitor. Bassanio approaches his friend Antonio who is extremely a wealthy merchant of Venice who has always bailed him out. Poor Antonio knew that his merchandise and ships are busy at sea on other locations but he promises to cover a bond if Bassanio can find a lender and that's how he becomes a suitable suitor.
