Sigmund Shlomo Freud, known by the acronym as Sigmund Freud (May 6, 1856 - September 23, 1939) was an Austrian physician of Jewish origin, specializing in the study of neuromedicine and a free thinker considered the founder of psychoanalysis. He is the Austrian Neurologist who founded the School of Psychoanalysis and Modern Psychology. Freud is best known for the theories of the mind and the unconscious, the defense mechanism of oppression and the creation of the clinical practice in psychoanalysis for treating psychiatric illnesses through dialogue between the patient and the psychoanalyst. He is also known for the technique of redefining sexual desire and the primary motivational energy of human life, as well as therapeutic techniques, including the use of association method and psychotherapy episodes, his theory of transformation in the therapeutic relationship, and the interpretation of dreams as sources of insight into the desires of the unconscious.
