The State of Qatar also plays a

The 2015 World Boxing Championship, and the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship. Qatar's agenda for world sports championships is still expanding, supported by the continuous efforts of the Qatar Olympic Committee and the various sports federations in Qatar.

In addition to the ancient traditional sports that reflect the Qatari identity, such as: traditional boat racing, camel racing, horse racing, and falconry (hunting), modern sports have witnessed great growth in recent decades and achieved many gains.

While football is the first and most popular sport in Qatar, tennis is rapidly gaining in popularity, especially with the opening of the Tennis Complex, which includes many tennis courts and other state-of-the-art facilities

Believing in the importance of sport and its role in improving public health and utilizing energies, an Emiri decree was issued in 2011 to consider the second Tuesday of February every year as a sports day for the country and to make it an official holiday dedicated to practicing sports, making Qatar among the few countries that play sports.
