La Costituzione degli Stati Confederati era la legge suprema degli Stati Confederati d'America. Fu adottato l'11 marzo 1861 e fu in vigore dal 22 febbraio 1862, fino alla conclusione della guerra civile americana (maggio 1865).[1] La Confederazione operò anche in base a una Costituzione provvisoria dall'8 febbraio 1861 al 22 febbraio 1862.[2] La Costituzione provvisoria originale si trova all'American Civil War Museum di Richmond, in Virginia,[3] e differisce leggermente dalla versione adottata in seguito. La Costituzione finale, scritta a mano, si trova nella Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library dell'Università della Georgia.[3] La maggior parte delle sue disposizioni sono duplicati letterali della Costituzione degli Stati Uniti; tuttavia, ci sono differenze cruciali tra i due documenti nel tono e nel contenuto legale, principalmente riguardo alla schiavitù.
