Today you buy a card, measure it, and only then find out it was never worth grading. Returns, reselling, shipping costs — value lost for nothing in return.

WHY MEASURING FROM PHOTOS USUALLY FAILS

Without reconstructing the card first, images from the internet are unusable for measurement:

• Perspective — the card is shot at a slight angle, so the near edge looks wider than the far one.

• Lens distortion — the camera's fisheye effect bends straight edges into curves.

• Card warp — the card itself isn't flat.

Measure directly in the photo and you measure all of that along with it, ending up with a number that has little to do with the actual card. That's why apps expecting a perfectly aligned shot fail on the images you actually have in front of you.

With GradeMyCards you don't measure in the photo — you measure in the reconstructed card. Perspective, lens distortion and card warp come out first, measurement comes after.

A TOOL, NOT AN AUTOMATON

GradeMyCards takes the math off your hands, not the judgement. You run the reconstruction yourself:

• Place the card quad on the four corners of the card.

• Dial in lens distortion if needed — the edges of the quad curve along with it and settle onto the distorted edge.

• In card warp the image is already rectified. Here you set the evenly spaced lateral curvature, horizontal or vertical.

• Finally, fine-tune until the card rectangle sits exactly on the edges.

• In the rectified card image you then place the border rectangle.

That keeps you in control of every number that comes out at the end. It's exactly why this works on images where fully automatic apps give up.

WHAT YOU NEED

One image of the front, one of the back. That's it. The straighter the shot, the more precise your result — but an angled photo isn't a dealbreaker, just another factor in the error calculation.

And when there's no full image at all: four corner shots per side are enough to calculate centering. Exactly the situation you keep running into at auctions.

EVERY VALUE COMES WITH ITS UNCERTAINTY

Centering, corner and edge quality — every app measures those. None of them tells you how far off it might be.

GradeMyCards does. Every measurement comes with an error estimate, calculated from the angle, resolution and sharpness of your specific image. On very good shots your error is ±0.1%. On poor source material it can be ±6% — same measurement, completely different meaning.

Because a measurement without error bounds isn't information, it's an assertion. Uncertainty is what turns a number into a basis for decisions: you see not just how good the card is, but how confident you can be — and whether your images are good enough to decide on at all.

WHAT YOU DON'T GET

The promise of a "guaranteed 10". You measure, you don't guess. The buying decision stays yours — but you make it with numbers and their limits instead of a gut feeling. And you make it before your money is gone, not once the card is already in your mailbox.
