Multipurpose Disaster Shelter Project is a World Bank project. Under this project, Local Government Engineering Division (LGED), will construct 556 new multipurpose disaster shelters cum Schools, improve 450 existing schools, build 550 km connecting roads, and 500 m bridges / culverts in 9 coastal districts. The project will benefit 14 million people among the coastal population living in the front line of climate change. The project will introduce steel shelter designs for the first time in Bangladesh for improved construction quality and durability. The ultimate objective of the Multipurpose Disaster Shelter Project (MDSP) for Bangladesh is to reduce the vulnerability of the coastal population in selected coastal districts of Bangladesh to natural disasters.
