At last I've managed to reproduce the crashes and deal with them intelligently, I hope.
All calls to Async Tasks have been changed from "execute" to "executeOnExecutor", which allows up to 5 tasks to run, in parallel, in the background.
The "onPostExecute", of all Async Tasks, now deal with callbacks intelligently, where the callback context is no longer in scope.
Hopefully all of the funnies will now go away.
