Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1) How do I use the app?

It's pretty straightforward. Once you install the app, it will guide you through a few setup steps. After you complete the setup, the app will run in the background, collect data and show you information about your phone usage. You can visit the app anytime and see the latest usage information. It is okay if you don't open the app daily, but please keep it installed on your phone.

2) What kinds of data does QuantApp collect?

QuantApp collects application usage data (i.e. which apps are opened/closed at what times), notification data (i.e. when and what type of notifications are received), motion data (e.g. stationary, moving) and sensory data (e.g. ambient light and noise). Please note that all our data collection is anonymous and we DO NOT collect anything privacy sensitive, such as your emails, chats, Whatsapp messages, photos, browser history etc.

3) Where is the data stored? How will it be used?

The data is transmitted securely from your phone and stored safely on our servers in Europe. The data will be used for developing our algorithms to improve user experience with mobile notifications. We will not share or sell any of the data to any third-party, it will only be used by the research team. Once the research is finished, all the data will be deleted.

However, if you have issue with any of your data during the study, please email us at [email protected] and we will delete it.

4) What about my privacy?

We understand user concerns on privacy, and take them very seriously. We assure you that all your data will remain anonymous. We do not require you to provide your name to us. Further, we do not collect anything privacy sensitive, such as your emails, chats, Whatsapp messages, photos, browser history etc.

5) What would be the impact on my phone battery?

We have optimised our algorithms and data collection routines to make sure that there is minimum impact on your phone’s battery. We understand that battery is a scarce resource, and we have tried our best not to drain the battery by introducing sleep cycles, and minimising sensing and networking activities.

6) How will the Mi Band winners be selected?

The winners will be chosen by a lucky draw in March 2017. To be eligible for participation in the lucky draw, users must keep the app installed on their phones for at least 4 weeks, and participate in a short survey towards the end of the study. It is okay if you don't open the app daily, but please keep it installed on your phone. We will communicate the names of the winners at the end of the study, and arrange to ship the Mi Band to the winner's home address.
