Nine Men's Morris is a board game of antiquity dating back to ancient Rome. It is also known as the Mill Game or Cowboy Checkers. The game was as popular in the western world as Chess and played alongside it.

Like Chess, this game forces you to think strategically and identify patterns. It is a great game to sharpen your analytical skills while a being a lot simpler than Chess.

In this game, you draw your pieces from the left and right sides of the board. To remove an opponent's piece, you move it to the top or bottom empty area. The game proceeds in two stages - placement stage and movement stage. You can't move a piece during the first one. In the movement stage, if one player is down to 3 pieces only - he/she can start jump moving his/her pieces (normally you move one adjacent hole to the current hole). Your goal all the time is to form 'mills' of pieces(soldiers) - which is a triad of side by side pieces. The player who forms a mill captures/removes one opponent piece out of the board. The player who is down to 2 pieces (cannot make any mill further) loses the game. [Important Rule: Ensure that the opponent piece you remove is not a part of an existing mill(of the opponent) unless that is the only choice left for you to do so!]
