The reason apps will not work with the "official" version is usually due to setting "install apps from other sources" and having one on your device that Google does not like! Try APKpure which doesn't have corrupted apps. Also they have several versions of THIS app on the website!

  There is no need to have a google account actually ON your phone. Only if you use Google Play apps or YouTube. Gmail has to be disabled or you will constantly be asked for your account details!
