Schipperke

Schipperke, aka "The Little Captain," is a small, alert, quick and energetic type, most ideal for friendship and protection. Initially as a rat hunter and supervisor, Schipperkes is an excellent hunter who almost rarely skips every moving prey, with the exception of cats and dogs. However, confining a pet can trigger a killer instinct.

Schipperke is a Belgian type dating from the 16th century. Original breed of Flemish region, this breed is descended from Leauvenaar, the local shepherd dog. The smaller Schipperke forms were bred to hunt mice and protect barges and small boats in Belgian waters, collecting cattle and hunting small animals. Similar to foxes in form and action, Schipperkes eventually became a travel and pet companion, who also plays a double role as a vigilant watchdog and pest hunter.
