Thyroid cancer

This mobile App is a medical calculator indicating the likelihood that a patient diagnosed with and treated surgically for differentiated thyroid carcinoma will die due to any cause in five, ten, fifteen, or twenty years.

To calculate these likelihoods we need to know the following patient parameters at the time of diagnosis: age, presence of local tumor persistence in the thyroid bed and distant metastasis.

To give these likelihoods the App will calculate a total score based on the risk afforded by the above parameters. A patient will have a greater risk of death if that patient is older and there exists persistence or metastasis. According to the score obtained the patient will be classified in a risk group and this group will have a probability associated with death. The classification system and the probabilities in each group are shown in a table and if a patient is classified in any of the higher risk categories, special emphasis should be placed on the follow-up.
