Most fast-food restaurant apps offer either a rewards program or deals. The Wendy’s app now has both.

Oh, a few chains, such as Baker’s Drive-Thru, Farmer Boys, and El Pollo Loco, occasionally offer deals to augment a rewards program, but Wendy’s is more, ahem, beefed-up, with a full set of deals and Wendy’s rewards.

Until recently, Wendy’s app had only offered deals for its users, including discounts, buy-one-get-one offers and free items with purchase.

Your points are then added to your Wendy’s account in one of two ways:

- First, if you place an order for pickup or delivery with the Wendy’s app or website, you’re good. That’s literally all you have to do. Mobile and website orders add Rewards points automatically. Done and done.

- The second way is to scan the QR code in your Wendy’s App at the counter or pickup window when you place an order. Simple.

Wendy's is adding another way to get free food through its mobile app.

On Tuesday, the chain announced the launch of a new loyalty program called Wendy's Rewards, which will allow members nationwide to cash in points earned on purchases for free nuggets, a Frosty, a burger, salads and other items.

“Wendy’s has some of the most loyal customers around, and we’re thrilled to launch a program that rewards them for their excellent taste in craveable, high-quality food,” said Carl Loredo, Wendy's chief marketing officer, in a news release.

Wendy's will continue to offer coupons in its app, which is available for Android and Apple devices.

Here's how Wendy's Rewards works: Customers create a MyWendy's account online or in the Wendy's app (those who already have an account will be automatically enrolled). Then, when purchasing food through the Wendy's app, website, or in-store (including drive-thru orders), members earn 10 points for every dollar spent with Wendy’s.

For orders via Wendy’s app or website, points are automatically applied. At physical stores, customers scan a QR code for point accrual. Wendy's also hints that there will be offers for bonus points on certain food items periodically, as well as extra points awarded for completing "challenges," any of which will be called out on Wendy’s app.
