In 2014 my dad passed away. It was very sudden and unexpected, and we weren't sure where to go or what to do, as it was the first time we had lost someone so close to us. My mother had people hassling her about money, and because my dad managed the budget my mom wasn't sure what was going on. My siblings and I had to put the grieving process on hold and take care of everything. We had to sort out the funeral arrangements, and then we had to figure out what was going on in my dad's life financially.

He had a briefcase he used to throw all the important documents in. We filtered through that and started notifying people about his passing. This took a few weeks and even then, some people were still phoning months later to chase a missed payment. Life insurance was our first priority so my mother didn't have to stress about money. Next was to keep people from phoning and hassling my mother with no respect for my dad’s passing or her grief. We tried to contact everyone and inform them about the loss in the family, but this was so difficult.

Months after this horrible experience, my wife and I were busy updating our emergency file, and we thought how good it would be to have it online. We couldn't find a service that enabled us to do that, so we started developing OneFile. We noticed a gap in the market and added functionality, to create a daily tool where you can capture your information and share it. So in the worst event, everything is organised and on file for your next of kin, so they have time to grieve.
