PAMS15

The Philippine Association of Marine Science (PAMS) carries the task of promoting growth in marine science in the country and recognizes the important role of Filipino Scientists in furthering knowledge on tropical marine ecosystems. PAMS holds a biennial national symposia, which is an appropriate venue for marine science research to be shared and disseminated to a wider audience in order to improve resource management and conservation efforts.

On 2019, the 15th National Symposium on Marine Science, with the theme “Fostering synergy of science, community and governance for healthy seas”, will focus on highlighting the complex people-sea relationship. Aligned with the Symposium’s theme, session and workshop topics related to innovation, integration and impact will be selected to highlight and strengthen conservation and protection initiatives. The Symposium widely encourages collaboration of key players - academe, management practitioners, non-government offices, national and local policy-makers, private sector and coastal communities.

It is PAMS15's aim to emphasize that healthy seas provide us more benefits such as livelihood resources, food, genetic, cultural and aesthetic values. Sustaining these benefits entail harmony of people and the environment – understanding that the sea is finite and there is a need for good science to inform management at all levels of governance.
