Each level of the Backdrop Rooms is on a different infinite altitude going up and going down. This theory states that the void is just the empty space of the outside of the Backdrop Rooms. the levels of the Backdrop Rooms occur on the inside, on the outside there is an indescribable silence of colorless space.

If you're not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backdrop Rooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-blue, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in.
