Carles Puyol i Saforcada (born in La Pobla de Segur, Lleida, April 13, 1978) is an ex-football player who plays as the back footballer of the Spanish national football team 178 cm. Before retiring Carles Puyol only played in FC Barcelona and had a job as captain of FC Barcelona. In 1995, he joined FC Barcelona Junior in La Masia and switched positions again, to play as a defensive midfielder, two years later, he started playing for the club B team, taking the right-back position. The Puyol nickname, called "El Capita" (the captain) is not playing. Puyol won his first trophy for Spain on 15 November 2000 against the Netherlands, playing for his country at the 2000 Olympics, 2002 World Cup, UEFA Euro 2004, 2006 World Cup, Euro 2008, 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup.
