Simulated warm-boot without the need for root access: restarts foreground apps; kills non-persistent and non-service apps; restarts the launcher desktop; re-initializes all desktop widgets. Apps are killed instead of being cached in RAM. Because RAM (as opposed to "disk") requires a continuous refresh of battery power, removing the app from memory will extend battery life.

Developers may find the detailed information on each process helpful and interesting. If you have root access then the device can be restarted, rebooted to recovery, or shut-down.
