Female song to warm up Sanhaço Azul The Amazon Tanager is a Passerine of the Thraupidae family. Also known as sai-azul, blue-sanhaçu, papaya-sanhaçu. In Maranhão it is called pipira-azul. Its scientific name means: do (tupi) Tangará = dancer; ata = floor; and caran = around; and from (Latin) episcopus = episcopal; (referring to the blue mantle of its plumage). ⇒ Episcopal dancer. It measures about 17.5 centimeters in length and weighs between 27 and 45 grams.

It is distinguished from other Tanager Tanager Tanager by the white spot where the wings meet. It does not show sexual dimorphism. Its song is a loud, high-pitched chirp.
