It's useful when you want to communicate when it's inappropriate to talk loudly, you have to spell out something for somebody, you just want to be subtle, or the background noise is so loud you would lose your voice before you tell your message.

- you want to tell the speaker at a meeting that you're going to have to leave the meeting room in 5 minutes, so they should keep it short
