DREADMOOR is a dark first-person fishing adventure set in a submerged world slowly rotting after a catastrophic human mistake. Players take control of a weathered fisherman and navigate the Submerged Lands, where flooded coastlines, abandoned settlements, shipwrecks, and decaying wetlands hide both valuable resources and monstrous threats. The game blends skill-based fishing, survival crafting, exploration, and real-time combat into a tense post-apocalyptic journey across land claimed by the sea.
A World Consumed by Water
The setting is one of DREADMOOR’s strongest attractions. Coastal regions have sunk beneath murky waters, while what remains of civilization survives in scattered, isolated settlements. Every journey feels dangerous because resources are scarce, trust is fragile, and the environment itself has been twisted by catastrophe.
Players pilot a fishing trawler between islands, docks, ruins, caves, and shipwrecks. The game encourages careful exploration: abandoned buildings may contain scrap metal, blueprints, medicine ingredients, or rare materials needed to improve equipment. At night, the danger becomes even more severe, with the darkness bringing new threats to the water and shorelines.
Fishing With Real Tension
Fishing in DREADMOOR is designed as more than a simple resource-gathering mechanic. Players must locate promising fishing spots, choose suitable bait, cast their lines, and manage line tension while reeling in their catch. The system rewards patience, observation, and timing, making each successful catch feel earned.
The waters contain dozens of dangerous and rare aquatic species. Some fish are valuable trade goods, while others can be dissected for rare organs and materials used to craft specialized lures. More dangerous prey commands higher prices from mysterious traders, creating a risk-and-reward loop: the deeper and more hostile the waters, the greater the potential reward.
Upgrade, Craft, and Survive
Survival is central to the experience. Fish can be sold for supplies, while salvaged wreckage and scrap can be transformed into boat upgrades, weapons, tools, medicines, reinforced harpoons, and specialized bait. Players can also visit an engineer at the dry dock to improve their vessel, allowing them to reach more remote and perilous areas.
Crafting gives players a reason to explore beyond fishing. Every expedition can yield materials for essential survival gear, and discovering new recipes helps players adapt to increasingly hostile environments. This progression loop—fish, salvage, craft, upgrade, and venture farther—forms the backbone of the game.
Combat Against Twisted Creatures
Unlike many peaceful fishing games, DREADMOOR constantly reminds players that they are prey as well as hunter. Mutated creatures inhabit both the water and the land, and real-time combat can break out without warning. A routine fishing trip can quickly become a desperate fight for survival against aquatic horrors or land-based monsters.
Combat uses crafted weapons and survival equipment, giving players multiple ways to respond to danger. The game’s horror atmosphere is reinforced by psychological tension, cinematic storytelling, and a world where every shadow beneath the surface may conceal something hostile.
A Grim, Atmospheric Experience
DREADMOOR is developed by Dream Dock and published by Digital Vortex, with a planned PC release via Steam in Q4 2026. Its tone draws inspiration from titles such as DREDGE, Metro Exodus, and Resident Evil, combining atmospheric fishing with survival horror and action-oriented exploration.
For players who enjoy dark fantasy worlds, tense exploration, and gameplay built around risk, preparation, and progression, DREADMOOR offers a compelling mix of fishing simulation and monster-filled survival adventure. It is a game about surviving in a drowned world—where every catch may be valuable, every wreck may hide a secret, and every journey may end beneath the water.
