Scientific Pitch Notation

(SPN) combines the name of the note and the number of the octave.

Octaves

are a specific range of notes. The notes in these groups are determined by the vibrations which describe the highness or lowness of the tones.

Each color group is a different octave. On the left, it starts with Octave 1 and goes up to Octave 7, the pitch going from low to high.

Now let's look at Octaves 2, 3, and 4

The tuning notes you'll find in this application reside in these octaves. Remember, when you see something like 'C4', this is called Scientific Pitch Notation .

The 'C' is the note's name. The number is the note's octave. Enjoy!
