Liverpool was founded in 1892 and joined the Football League the following year. The club has played at Anfield Stadium since its formation which is located about 4.8 km from Liverpool city centre.

The most successful period in Liverpool's history was in the 1970s and 1980s when Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley led the club to eleven league titles and seven European cups.

Liverpool have a long history of rivalry with neighbors Everton and also with Manchester United. Competition with a city club known as the Merseyside Derby. Meanwhile, Manchester United is known as the North West Derby.

Liverpool is known to have very fanatical supporters around the world. They were nicknamed The Kop. Liverpool's national anthem is "You'll Never Walk Alone".
