The National Micro Entrepreneurs’ Federation Nepal (NMEFEN) is a not for profit membership organisation established in 2062 (2006) to promote the interests of micro entrepreneurs from ethnic, indigenous and economically disadvantaged rural communities across Nepal.

These micro enterprises are often based on traditional skills and locally available raw materials, and are a means of providing sustainable livelihoods and generating self-employment and income generation. The combined activities of the over 70,000 micro enterprises in Nepal also supports the national economy.

NMEFEN’s vision is to take a leadership role in strengthening the micro-enterprise sector, actively promoting the interests of micro-entrepreneurs so that the sector is highly regarded at a local and national level for the important role it plays in poverty alleviation.

There are 38 District Micro Entrepreneurs Group Associations (DMEGAs) affiliated with NMEFEN. Hence, NMEFEN represents about 70,000 entrepreneurs in Nepal. NMEFEN has been working in Nepal since its establishment in partnership with the Micro-Enterprise Development Programme (MEDEP).
